Faith, trust and a little bit of pixie dust....

Hey there peoples

Here is a Disney related post, it is in the past tense, as what I'm writing about happened months ago now of course, but it still deserves airing on the big old worldwide web :)

So, as part of my orientation during my program, we watched the video here, which was created by a family who visited Walt Disney World, there are now 3 of them in total, and I only found it by chance that one of the CMs I used to work with posted on out facebook group the newest instalment of this family's adventures in Disney World. So, it definitely sells being a CM to me over and over again and makes me want to drop everything and go back and just make people happy every day! But at the same time it also brings with it the bittersweetness of spending a significant amount of your time in the Happiest Place on earth without your nearest and dearest. Now if you're reading this blog to find out about the ICP program, do not let this comment put you off going for it. GO FOR IT! I'd love to say I'm going back again next summer, and to those of my friends who are returning, I am so happy and excited for them, but I cannot deny that I wish I was going with them again! So, as you can see, sometimes different emotions can seriously impact your life as an international CM, but overall it was the best thing I've ever done, it has changed my life immeasurably and I would not be the person I am today without the ICP, I owe Disney so much. They may have taken over my life a little and made 'normal' life comparisons difficult to accept and handle, but I don't regret one minute of my programs, I just hope that I get the chance to go and create some magic all over again.

Here's to hoping! :D Have a magical 12/12/12 everyone!!!!

Just because...

Hey there, if you are still following my blog, it has become a little barren over the last 8 weeks or so and I want to blog but I don't really have much to say to you about Disney programs at the moment other than I wish I'd been one of the lucky ones interviewing once again for a summer program this past week! I have so many friends going through their second set of interviews for, fingers crossed, their second ICP program, or should I say summer cultural experience or whatever Disney are now calling it! So anyways, also all over the tv at the moment are the Disney World adverts for a summer 2013 holiday and I want to book one so bad, the post disney depression and withdrawal symptoms are excessive and who'd known how much it could hurt a girl to leave so many people behind or simply have them scatter world-wide. Once again, as I've mentioned before in one of my blogs, be sure of two things if you accept an international program with Disney, you will have the best time of your life but your heart will be broken into lots of little tiny pieces which will scatter on that end date and yes that may mean you end up with lots of holiday destinations but it will always end in a goodbye....but don't let this put you off! I wouldn't trade either or my programs for the world or anything at all! They were the best, they certainly made me who I am today, a bit cliche I know, but I don't think that if I hadn't been a Disney CP then I couldn't do the job I'm doing on placement now, although I have to admit some of the Disney brainwashing (all for the good of the guests here, such as Disney pointing and the language used at Disney) will never ever go away and it certainly makes life here in the UK interesting when you use american words (elevator, car ride, cell phone, bathroom/restroom etc) and Disney-isms (guest, disney point, 101, 102, 'today is my friday').

Me making my own memories around and aboard my magic carpets! <3

Anywho, I have come across this little gem of a video on youtube, as I follow the channel anyways, it includes the wonderful onerepublic song, good life, which is used on the official Disney World adverts at the moment and to be honest, it epitomises a CP program, so here it is for you to check out if you haven't already :D

As always any questions, comments etc, let me know, until next time, have a magical day :)

Holding it together...

Hey there, hi there, ho there, it isn't a Disney kinda day, back to reality once again and it's harder than ever to try and live a more normal life, Disney pops up and crops up everywhere! Not to mention how much I miss the friends that I left behind and those who left but are now not living together. Out here on placement I have none of my friends here, although new friends are only a hello away I'm sure, but still, it's much harder to be positive when the sun is nowhere to be seen and it's cold every day, it is like winter here! Take me back already! I'm already thinking of ways that I can get back there or get time to go back to visit! Somehow I will do it and get back there! In the mean time I have to hold it together and pretend I remember how to live like I live in England and bundle up warm all of the time lol. As for now I don't really have any more to say, if you have any questions or requests for posts about certain things that go on in the ICP program drop me a message and I'll root around in my memory and find the answers for you! But for now that's all folks!

Last couple of weeks across the pond...

So on Tuesday the 28th I did a spot of shopping at cast connection and then spent the early afternoon with Charlotte in MK, avoiding the rain and having a magical time, as you always do in the magic kingdom :). It wasn't a late finish as I finished work at 9.15pm but I think this was always the worst time to finish as it meant I didn't get home until about 10.30pm....then I decided it was about time I started to organise stuff and start to pack for my removal from vista on the friday... which was starting to loom like an unwelcome house guest. So I did some washing and packing and just chilled out. Wednesday was my last day working at ATT, it was so sad to leave, but I had a really bad day in roles, got my most hated roles all day, didn't even operate the main console at aladdin all day and well we also had some rain down time. But I did get to close the tiki room and I also was closing Aladdin, so I got that joy just once more. Overall it wasn't a bad day, but it was sad to say goodbye to so many people! As I closed I didn't get a chance to do anything other than work on my last day either, so that wasn't a favourite but hey ho, I still worked in the Happiest Place on Earth again this summer and it was so so worth all the heartache it's causing me now!

Thursday was my last day with all of my group of UK friends, we spent the day in MK, joined throughout the day by various friends who had to pop in and out of plans due to other commitments. I got to go back to the carpets to see those people who weren't there on my last day, got to ride again and see the tiki show one last time. I also got some amazing pictures, we also did some random things, got my memory book thing signed by them all and we had a wonderful dinner over at beaches and cream. The plan was to do the kitchen sink but we had real food instead, which was good and fun times were had, such as Amy deciding she was ham eyes and scaring a fellow brit to the point of worrying about her sanity I think. Good memories. The night ended with Wishes and crying of course, parting is such sweet sorrow lol. But we have to believe that we will see each other soon!

Friday held initial travelling to South Carolina, Hilton Head Island to visit my friend who is living and working there for the year. It took us about 6 hours on the greyhound bus to get there with a layover in Jacksonville, Florida. It was a fairly smooth ride, but was so tired, having been up late packing, and having slept really badly the night before, long travelling did not go down well with a tired Laura. But once we were there it was so nice, we stayed with Kate's friends, saw the hotel she worked at, which was very nice, we had dinner there which was so yummy and then we went back to hers to have a big old catch up and natter about life and what's been going on in our lives. It was so good to see her again! I hadn't seen her since February! Then we got some much needed sleep ready for the next day, we went to the beach (where I proceeded to get very sunburned), had an experience for dinner at a diner where the staff are rude to you as part if the show as Disney would say. It was fun, bit odd, but an experience nonetheless...after this Kate had to go to work so me and Sarah headed down the road for a spot of mini golf - I lost as usual - I always lose mini-golf. It was fun and we managed to get a bit of shade which was nice too, who knew it could be so hot elsewhere in the states as it is in Florida. Not to mention that there seemed to be more bugs in South Carolina than in Florida...Anyways we had fun, then we went to chill out at the apartment, we watched some movies and packed everything up again! Ready for our 1am greyhound bus to DC. The coach trip itself was reasonably uneventful, but it was so tiring and long (it took nearly 12 hours I think to get there) and we had 2 layovers which was crazy and a bit stressful really. But we finally got there about 1pm on Sunday and made our way to the hostel we were staying at. It was a great hostel, really good value, very clean, friendly staff, free wifi (had we taken a laptop) and even a free breakfast.... what more can you want. Plus it was really central so we could get almost anywhere. We did the museum of natural history on sunday afternoon and ended the day with dinner at Ruby Tuesdays, before there was a torrential rain storm which forced us to go back to the hostel to take cover, re-print my e ticket for the flight back to florida, which I had lost somehow somewhere between vista and could be anywhere, but hey its invalid now and I don't think it had anything important on it... I hope. Anyways after this we got some sleep and then the next day we were up bright and early for breakfast and then off to explore DC. We went to the space and plane museum, sneakily eating chips in their restaurant...oh dear lol and then the memorials and mall all around DC. We were also looking around the botanical gardens near the capitol. Was much fun and we also had a brief look in another museum, but Sarah's camera battery ran out so we went back to put that on charge too. We finished the day off with dinner at Nando's before collapsing into bed that night - exhausted. The following day we checked out the rest of the memorials we hadn't got around to until then, we also went to the holocaust museum, it was very sobering and very real, it was good but it made me feel really sad, which I suppose is the point, but I would recommend it if you want to learn lots about the holocaust. We also saw the white house and wandered around the momuments at night, after finding a random place to have dinner where we struggled to understand what was going on, but the food was good :D And once again we collapsed into a deep slumber, but not after having to pack everything away again for checkout the next day.

The next day we lugged our cases onto the metro (underground train - subway) over to arlington cemetery to see the tomb of the unknown soldier and the changing of the guard, before hopping back on the metro to get over to the airport for our 2 hour short haul flight to orlando. It was a short flight and it had some weird A/C going on, it kinda looked like the plane was on fire, disconcerting I know, but I survived to tell the tale :) We got back to Orlando in good time and then went and found a mears cab to take us over to the commons area so we could walk over to our friends apartment where we were staying for the next few days. We met her there and got help getting and taking our stuff to her apartment. She and the other flat mates had only just moved in too, it is such a nice apartment, so homely even in its not-quite-finished state. We felt at home there :) That night we watched spice world, because we're cool and did some chatting and seeing lots of people, but there were a few goodbyes too :(. The next day we slept for a long time, being so tired from the travelling, then we got up and chilled around the apartment and were chatting to Mary Ann, Briana, Rachael and Amber before we went over to the outlet mall for a spot of shopping. Then we went to dinner night to see even more people and have good times, played a card game and chatted about random things, that happen on dinner night, so once again, a fairly late night. Then on Friday we were again chatting to people in the morning and having a good time, then we had our 'tea party' with Rocky, who we taught how to drink tea the english way. The day was also followed with a viewing and singalong/dance along to aladdin and then an epic kitchen sink endeavor. There were 7 of us, but we finished that beast! It was a fun night, but sad as it held even more goodbyes, there were a lot that night, but I held it together somehow. It turned into another late night as always. The next day we were heading over to boardwalk inn to stay the night and go to night of Joy, we stayed at the apartment until late afternoon, watching the holiday, because it's clearly christmas soon lol and just making the most of having our friends around. Then Briana and Rocky took us over to the boardwalk and we checked in. However this is where my composure breaks and there were a lot of tears.. I'm not ashamed but still. Then we saw our room, the boardwalk Inn is amazing! It had the best beds and furniture and decorations and it had a balcony and a garden view and just wow. Then we went off to find food and book the magical express for the next day. We ate at the ESPN club, short wait, good food, shame about the amount of sport going on lol, that is kinda the point I know, and I had never eaten in there before. So we had dinner and then went off to MK for night of joy, which was so much fun, we met up with two of our other friends Reed and Andrea for most of the night and had a whale of a time, got to seem some wonderful ATTers and ride the carpets one last time, saw some awesome performances, a real high for the end of the program. It did mean a late night though, we got back to the hotel about 2am and went straight to sleep. We had to be out of the room by 11am the next day, but we kept our bags at the front desk. It was rainy and cold-ish typically for our last day which was sad, but we did some last minute shopping and ate breakfast and ice cream at boardwalk. It was a nice but bittersweet morning before the magical express arrived to whisk us off to the airport. Once we were on that the video typically made us sad and we were not exactly happy to be leaving. Then at the airport spot of last last minute shopping and chilling lol. We saw Manisha at the airport with her family, as they were on the same flight as us. The flight itself was uneventful to be honest, it was only 7 and a half hours, and again i cried. But then I got back to England and it was cold and miserable and yeah. My parents were late again, the satnav this time, they just can't make it there on time lol. Then more tears before a long car ride home, where I slept.

And that's about it I guess, the end of my magical summer 2012 and the second college program. Maybe I'll blog some more later but for now TTFN!

Downtown Orlando, Vera Bradley and graduation..

Hey hey

It's been a while, I know, I'm sorry, but life has got me carried away and now I'm too busy mourning the end of my second ICP program... Anyways, carrying on where I left off last time, here is a run down of what's been going on in my life. So on August 9th, I went to downtown orlando for the first time, we didn't stay too long, but it was nicer than I expected, I much preferred it to Miami, if I'm honest. We went there, had lunch at a non-chain greek restaurant which was really nice, but as always servings were massive and I was stuffed! The next plan was to feed the ducks some lettuce, which had been car-baked, however we ran out of time and the lettuce was left unloved. This was then followed by hanging out with friends, listening to the song from music and lyrics known as pop, goes my heart, painting my toe nails a lovely shade of purple, not my finger nails as purple is so not disney look... In the evening it was dinner night, although I was still stuffed, the night held chatter and complaints, there was fun, but it was over quite early and off home I went. Friday I was working but after work I just spent a bit of time hanging out in MK on my own, I'd never done it before and it is weird, being in a park on your own, but it was fine and it was better than coming home and doing nothing at all. Which was what I did saturday and sunday after work lol (washing and then a movie night respectively) however a girl needs to rest sometimes.

Monday the 13th was my next day off, I spent this with Marissa at universal. It was great to see her as I hadn't been able to see her much this summer. We went on lots of rides, including rip ride rockit where we used the hidden playlist and I listened to Madonna, Vogue, by randomly selecting a number, was hilarious. We also saw the horror makeup show, dodged a storm, went on the water slide that I didn't know existed near ET, oh yeah we did ET too, and men in black, and spider man, and dragon challenge, and cat in the hat and carouseusell, and doctor dooms fear fall and the accelertron and the mummy and we ate ben and jerry's ice cream, which I didn't even know you could get there, mmm cinnamon cereal flavour and chocolate nougat flavour was so good, we ate this whilst watcthing the nightime show celebrating universals 100 year anniversary. Lunch was eaten at flannagans (i think) the irish pub/restaurant). It was so good and so cheap really for table service, it's a mix of american and irish food stuffs and you even get soda bread to start with, so I would highly reccomnend it! All in all it was an amazing day!

Tuesday held a new experience for me, I went to a shop called Vera Bradley and bought a new bag, it was the first time I'd been there and I was surrounded by so many pretty bags, I did settle on my favourite pretty quick and no surprises about its colour, it was obviously blue lol due my obsession with the's a little unhealthy, or borderline. I went there with Trista and we hung out there checking the other shops out too, we had lunch there and starbucks, my first white chocolate mocha (not too impressed) before I went to epcot with Alix in the afternoon, we weren't there too long, but we had fun getting confused why we went to the land for no reason, amazed at the line there was to go on the figment ride and dodging yet another thunderstorm. The evening held community life church over at discovery palms, was a short night, most people left early, but as always was good to be there. Wednesday was a lovely little skype date, potentially the last time my skype was actually working too....

Thursday was my graduation and yes I still had to work it, I even got called in an hour early.. I did manage to swap my shift though, so I finished at 6.30pm instead of 8.15pm, so I got there for the last hour, got my ears, my gift and certificate and even had time to get my picture with mickey and minnie and see work mates. After this we bundled off to MK to watch wishes together, but we all ended up splitting off, so didn't watch it together anyway. Grad was fun, but nowhere near as fun as last grad, bear in mind however that last year I was there from the beginning and I'd actually had the whole day off, we did 3/4 parks, and stayed together the whole day, which was magical in itself. The friday held an early shift followed by a trip to DTD for shopping and relaxing and a spot of dinner at cookes of dublin. It was nice to be there for a little while considering how much I saw the place last summer!

On Saturday, making the most of life, me, sarah and eilidh went to MK before we all started work, we had fun but as time was limited we didn't get too much done. We were already reminiscing about our program 2 weeks before the end! Sunday held a trip to church, followed by booking flights back to FL from DC, it was challenging to get them but now we can actually get back, that is as long as this hurricane goes away...Monday I worked and then went to an epic girls night filled with revelations and friendship, we even introduced our american friends to el nombre, hilarious! Tuesday I was off and went to DHS and then to epcot with Sarah and Alix, it involved a long line for toy story midway mania, some interesting drawing in animation, some alcoholic coffee in norway and a figment filled adventure, amongst other things. We then went over to community life church and it was our last tuesday there so it was so sad and really hard to leave. Then I ended up going to denny's (my first time) with some friends late at night (got home about 2.45am) but it was fun, there was much banter, youtube videos and just funny times - there were even mean girls quotes..

Wednesday was my last day off and it was a cold, cold day, yet we still went to blizzard beach. That was me, Ami and Manisha, after the time for tea party (where I just missed out on meeting Mr Penguin from Mary Poppins!). We did all the good things, not summit plummit lol, and got freezing on the lazy river thing. We warmed up with hot chocolate after we were all dried off. After this I went to see the Lion King at the Yacht and Beach Club with some friends, it was supposed to be on the beach, but due to the storm, we watched in inside, it was still good :D

Thursday was work, I called home but that was about it. Friday I had a wander down to publix with Rachel, just because, got some nice bread, but tried not to buy much due my imminent removal from vista way :( It was nice to hang out, I followed this with a mini nap before work as I closed at 1.45am, and was tasking from my last break until park close, crazy... Saturday, after an 8.15hr turnaround I did a lovely shift at work, followed by a few hours in MK with Heather and her friend, eating dole whip, riding the carpets, terrorising sarah and seeing the carousel of progress. Then I moved onto Boardwalk for a night at jellyrolls with Alix, Ami and Charlotte, was so good all over again, in fact some of the music was better this time! Ami requested bohemian rhapsody and they played it, it was soo good :D but it meant and still means that I am totally exhausted as the last two days all I have done is work, it's so sad. I did 13 hrs and 15 mins on sunday and 10.5hrs today, it's a lot. Also the tiki room opened its doors for EMH for the first time yesterday, it was so weird it being open so late! But I was obviously at greeter because it was EMH because that's where I always am! Today I started at 11.15am so there wasn't much time to sleep after getting home at 2.30am, so coffee had to keep me going and I'm not sure how I'm awake and still writing this right now, but it needed doing.. and now that leads me to now, this very minute, there are plans for the last few days of my program and for the travelling after but they're not for now, for now good night everyone!

Jelly rolls, and backlot tour extras...

Hello once again, welcome to another blog post, this time it's for a week and a half mainly because I worked 8 days straight and I haven't really had that much of a life, but here's a run down for you. On the 30th, we went to the Grand Floridian for lunch, then over to DTD for some shopping and finally to Port Orleans for some beignets (bucket list) and to watch Tangled on the bowling green. Was so much fun!

On the wednesday it was a lot of people's last day at work :( so after work we went to ihop for pancakes, which was so nice, but yet another late night and so sad to say good bye to so many people, work is weird now that they've all gone! Friday held my first trip to Jelly rolls after work! It was so good, they had duelling pianos and played all kinds of music, there was singing along, clapping and interactive dances to do, all in all a good night, but the a/c was so high in there I was freezing by the time we left. We also went into the dance hall to take a look around but didn't stay.

Saturday I got extended at work, so I finished at 5 rather than 2.45pm but I still went to MK with Amy and Alix for a while, we did haunted mansion, the carousel, the speedway (finally), country bear jamboree and pirates, so all in all pretty good, finally done every attraction at MK! After this went over to see Mary Ann and Claire, and we just hung out and chilled for a few hours which was good and much needed I think! Sunday was another trip to church, followed by lunch with Sarah and some travel booking (finally) we are now definitely going to South Carolina and Washington DC, NYC is still elusive, no decisions have yet been made...

Tuesday I went to grocery bingo before work, I didn't win typically but it was fun and it fulfils my cultural requirement for August so we're good as I can't go to graduation! I'm scheduled to work and there looks like there's no way I can get it off now... :( after grocery bingo had a spot of lunch before work. Today I went to DHS with Nat and was later joined by Manisha and then even later by Amy, Alix and Sarah. We did quite a few things, me and Nat were extras in the backlot tour!!! I was the captain of the ship and Nat was the engineer (i.e. the one who gets loads of water dumped on them!) it was fun and I stayed pretty dry so I was impressed really! Had an amazing coffee cupcake, got a no strings attached form because the vending machine didn't vend my drink after I'd already paid... ate at pizza planet, finally saw Fantasmic, met lots of characters, finished my autograph book and had a blast all in all! I terrorised captain hook with the tinker bell autograph book and telling him that I'd seen a crocodile lol, it was so funny, but overall a much needed day off with lots of exciting things and friends :D

Anyways tomorrow I'm off too and going to downtown orlando with Joy and Mary Ann, so we shall see what happens there and I'll keep you posted.

A royal invitation

Hi there, well it's been a while once again, so here is another blog of the goings on of an ICP in 2012. So on the 21st I had my first opening shift, it was ok, but it was so humid so early that day it wasn't fun. The shift itself went ok and was pretty fast as it was only a 6 hr shift. Then I went to Epcot with Amy for the evening and to watch the fireworks, all in all pretty good, we did lots of the little attractions and started to tour the world too. Sunday held a trip to church followed by lunch at millenia mall which was fun, after this in the evening I went with Alix to MK, we did lots and lots of attractions, finally did the astro orbiter and rode the original dumbo ride after playing in the play area of course, getting stuck on the slides etc, way too much fun. We heard wishes but didn't watch them. Then monday was back to work, followed by a movie (Shaun of the Dead) at the guys apartment for James' birthday, was weird as I got confused as to which movie I was actually watching, but it was chilled so that was good. This was followed by my first trip to a wawa, which my american friends have been going crazy over it, but I wasn't too impressed, yeah it was good but they made it out to be epic... oh well, I went once lol. Then on Tuesday a later shift was followed by a trip to ale house, which I didn't take any money or ID (oops) so water it was. But it's so weird being back there after a year and being there with other people other than cirque people, so strange. Thursday was an early shift so was followed by a short trip to DHS with Alix and Charlotte, involving star tours and churros lol. Thursday also held my loosing multiple rock paper scissors games (8 I believe) against Kory at the dinner night, oh well. Friday was dinner time with Alix at applebee's, quite a long wait, but as I had so little food in it was good.

Saturday was the first of my 3 days off, went to DHS and DAK with Charlie, who leaves next week :(, we did all the things she wanted to do, lots of character spotting was involved and meeting eeyore and daisy duck were definitely the highlights of my day. Followed by a movie trip to see Batman and a visit to a friends new house. Sunday was one of the best days yet, we went to cinderellas royal table for Eilidhs 21st, followed by Epcot and the poylnesian for wishes, such a fun day, lots of pictures were taken and an amazing time had! :D

The Last Trip to Universal and other related articles

Hey there, well here is another exciting update for my blog, lol, just kidding, I'm just updating what's going on in my world right now. So it's been another long week and I am once again (as always) exhausted, but it's been worth it. So on monday before work me Charlie and Sarah went over to try out chic fil a, which I have only had a little of when it was free at work one day last year, it was ok, just chicken I guess, but it was food and it kept me full for work which is always good as I worked until 11.15pm. My EMH shift on sunday was painful because I was stuck with aladdin greeter position pretty much all night, which is the most boring position because you have to stand still for the whole time, so I was bored and tired, not a good mix... but ER was at 2.30am instead of 3am so I got home reasonably which was always good :D

Then tuesday was my first day off, it included the housing event, Christmas in July, which was weird but good, met some disney characters in christmas gear, got free drinks and pizza, met a random girl, played some games and then went over to DHS to hit some attractions. We got quite a bit done although it was pretty busy and the plan to character spot didn't go down too well, it was a good day, lots of fun. We ended it with dinner at the 50's prime time diner, which was another thing on my bucket list, this bucket list is going very well even if I do say so myself... It was good, but I expected more of a show I think, but the food was really good and I got a light up ice cube in my drink so I was happy! In the evening it was over to friends for more chatter and relaxing times.

Wednesday was a very early start with a 7.15am bus to the commons to get over to universal for about 9am. We then had issues with the annual passes printing, the people I went with were buying there's. But when we finally got in, it was pretty busy, but we had two of the fast pass things to use, we used one for despicable me, which I finally got to go on! It was good, I liked it, was cute, I do love despicable me! However I still think the jimmy newtron attraction was better although not too many kids probably know who he is/was anymore, he was a bit outdated... but the birdy dance was such the best thing ever! who doesn't love that song lol. We also did Harry Potter world and the ride etc, we got frozen butter beer, which is a lot nicer than the non-frozen alternative. We also did the Beetlejuice show (one of my favs), twister, rip ride rockit (didn't lose a hair grip this time), Shrek 4D, Hulk, Doctor dooms fearfall, spiderman, the forbidden journey and dragon challenge. So a good day all in all, but a very long day, we were at the park for 12 hours!

Then it was back to work, very tired and not ready to start my day shifts, I'm already starting to look pretty pink after just two of them and I have them all week which is crazy! I'll survive somehow though! It'll be fine. Some guests are struggling with my accent at the moment too, today a woman had issues with the number 5 but usually it's just the word bird, so for the tiki room some people believe it's a bug or bear show, not a bird show, so they're in for a bit of a shock once they get inside...but all in all work is going well and I still like my role, it's a little tiresome, as there is not too much variation as you never make it through a whole rotation due to breaks, but it's fine. After work it was over to friends for dinner and to hang out, there was a reunion with a friend who'd been away on a mission trip to uganda for two weeks, and new faces to meet too as well as witch cakes...which were yummy, but not sure what they were. It was a good night and then today it was back to work again, for more sunbathing/burning lol, after which I met up with Alix, and we hit cast connection, for some foods, where a woman charged me for 4 pineapples instead of apples, who does that! What would I want with 4 pineapples, I'm only one person! Oh well, got my refund and was on my way. Tonight we then went to Cicis with Ami for some pizza, indulgence and chatter which was a nice end to the day. It's still not exactly late, but I'm tired and in work tomorrow at 7.45 so need to be up and ready super early, so ta ta for now!

Sunday, 15 July 2012

So the last week has been just a little bit crazy and I am exhausted, but it's been so worth it! Monday we went to MK before work for a few hours, but it was pretty bust so only got Stitch and Buzz lightyear. Then work was fine, this week though I have managed to go two whole days without going into the tiki room...pretty good going! Also I finished late monday night and then a couple of hours later got on a 4am bus to Miami. Yes I finally got to Miami, I can't say that I was that impressed, yes it has a beautiful beach, which was a lot of fun, but the main area was only ok, I think I was expecting more, but it was still a really good day, a relaxing day which was good considering how tired I was. Then had lunch at TGIs and my alcoholic milkshake which I'd been waiting for for a year, so again, two bucket list things in one day :D The trip back was pretty bad though, stuck in traffic for over an hour, a 4 hr trip took over 5 hrs...but then me and my friend Sarah went over to some friends apartment and we ended up playing video games and then a board game (which I lost epically) until like 2am, once again, I managed to be up for 24 hours! I don't advise it...the next day getting up was painful...but I did and went to DHS with Nat and Manisha for a couple of rides, was pretty busy though, then to voluntear at the Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee for a couple of hours, was so worthwhile, made me feel small and insignificant but in a good way, not bad way, but that I want to do more and wish I could make them all better at the flick of a wand... After this we went to the boardwalk for ice cream, mmm coffee flavoured ice cream :D and a wander around until I was almost falling asleep again...

The next day I had a fairly early shift, which was painful, considering how tired I was. It was good though and was followed by a yummy dinner with friends and a spot of grocery bingo, which I obviously didn't win...but I did win lots of bug bites :/ my legs are covered with the things...oh well, they'll heal up. Friday held a long awaited trip to walmart, long awaited because I didn't wanna go, but it had to be done, it wasn't exciting but it was successful. Then I worked till 2.45am (EMH) :( and tonight the same (until 3am, yay lol). Yesterday I went to work, did some washing, drank some english tea and yeah that's about it. Today I went to hang out with friends Mary Ann and Briana and we watched Music and Lyrics and relaxed, and now I'm just about ready to head out to work....but tomorrow is my friday and I'm ready :) big plans are in the making :) TTFN

Universal and such things in July

Well hello there, welcome to July. I have survived my HUB/PAC shift on the 3rd of July, which had a massive storm over MK so the whole park went 101 for like an hour and a half, which for me meant just sitting hiding from the lightning :) easy pay. Since my last update I have managed to do a few bucket list items and planned new bucket list endeavors. I have eaten at Ihop which was amazing, but so so full at work after that so that was stressful lol because I just wanted to nap....oh well. Work is going pretty well, although I had to do my first e-stop when a guest jumped out of a carpet while they were in motion, but other wise a good week, with recognition for good team work with a four keys fanatic card :D and lots of good guest interaction and bubble blowing. I love my job sometimes :). Also we also had a morning before work at MK which was fun, but it was kinda busy so we didn't manage to do too much, nice though.

This week I also received my uni results, finally, late I know. But success, I didn't fail anything, I actually did pretty well, so no retakes, no early planes home and one happy Laura. So to celebrate I visited cast connection and got a phone cover and an autograph book :D for good prices :D so good day. Then on my day off (yesterday) I went to universal (both parks) with my friend from last year (who is working at universal) for the day, it was so good to see her, and we had lots of fun riding the rides and having a good catch up, one that was well overdue! I lost a hair grip on rip ride rockit, started feeling my age riding all the roller coasters, lol with back pain and headaches :( but we got food at the three broomsticks and I finally got my butter beer, which was so good, and cornish pasties which were weird, not like in England... but ok and they came with a good salad :D. Then in the evening it was off to DTD to see The Amazing Spider man with some amazing people, I really enjoyed it, but the screen kept we did get free tickets for next time, nice one AMC :D And now we are up to date I think, maybe, maybe not. I'm trying to keep on track here lol but I had a lot of hours this last week. Next week holds a trip to Miami at some point and some voluntearing at the give kids the world village, so lots of fun things planned, until then, a bientot!

Tropical storm Debbie is ruining my life...

well kinda. but not really. Yeah I was being kinda dramatic there, but one thing for sure is that Debbie is stealing florida's reputation as the sunshine state, because today and the last 3 days it has rained almost non-stop, and not a little bit of rain, a lot of rain.

Saturday was my day off and on that day I went to Epcot with Manisha and was joined by Alix, Eildh and Sarah throughout the day as their shifts finished. We got pretty much everything we wanted to do done and saw the fireworks and me and Sarah got our taste of alcohol for the first time since getting here. Frozen margaritas in Mexico taste as good as they look, or at least they do if you have the fiesta one (mix of mango, lime and strawberry), Sarah didn't like the strawberry on its own and I wouldn't recommend it, but the fiesta is soo good :D. Sunday was the beginning of the crazy rain, it rained all day and myself and Charlie and Alix braved the rain and headed to MK, which was nice and quiet so we got a lot done, unfortunately we got rained on, a lot, and were soaked pretty much the whole time, I wore jeans to be warm - bad idea - denim does not dry out! Either way it was fun and we even got to see the rainy day parade which was awesome as all the times I've been here I've never seen it! It's not as good as the real parade but it's cute all the same. After we dried off a bit we went over to cici's for a cheap buffet dinner and much chatting to catch up. Overall a very good weekend off :D

My schedule also came out though, telling me that I only have one day off next week :( and I'm working 41 hrs... it'll be ok, I hope. I have a PAC shift on the 3rd of July for the fireworks, hoping for the best... However my first day without a trainer was yesterday and it went pretty well, no major mishaps, however there was multiple rotations on stroller parking, which didn't make me happy and then I got stuck in the tiki theater for 2 hrs which is a bit crazy really, which meant that I closed the theater yesterday. But overall I think I'm going to enjoy this job, despite the constant rain at the moment and the need to be surgically attached to your rain gear... anyways, off to work again soon, for another day without a trainer, TTFN...

Friday is my Friday....

So I had tuesday and wednesday off to do with whatever I pleased. So of course I made use of my park access and went to Animal Kingdom on Tuesday and Epcot on Wednesday. In AK, we did Dinosaur, broke down on Chester and Hesters dinorama, spinning ride thing, which was not working the whole of my last program. So a bit of a let down there, we even got evac-ed from it. So now my total evac is once from the carousel of progress (last program) and once from that! lol. We also went on expedition everest and the lion king show. Overall a very fun day :D followed by meeting some other friends which ran into a late-ish night visit to steak n shake and monopoly card game!

Wednesday was also the breakfast with the characters welcome event. There was free breakfast food and a picture with mickey mouse and minnie in their pjs. This was followed by a visit to epcot, going on spaceship earth, living with the land, finding nemo, the highland games (from Brave) and meeting Alice, Daisy Duck and Stitch. Then we got rained off and it didn't stop raining forever, so some more evening inside activities and a relatively early night (12.30am) before my final day of training.

My final day of training involved rotation around all positions, going over some reading and trying to remember the spiels needed for the tiki room. With practice I was starting to remember them without the script but had it close at hand. My trainer suggested I needed to shout louder so I'm working on projecting my voice :) Then today was my assessment, it was fine. It sounds more intimidating than it was, much less intimidating than last years assessment at least. It involved lots of questions about the background of my attractions, how to safely use them, stop them and manage them in whatever conditions. There was also a multi-choice test paper to complete and a chat with the manager before I had officially 'earned my ears' and was a real CM once again! Now all passed it was out to rotation for 1 hour and 45 mins, however after first rotation was about 10 minutes in it began raining and we went down for the storm and remained so until I got bumped out to leave. So that was my assessment. Now for 2 more days off, not sure either, but my friday really is a friday this time at least. Weird I know. But till next time, a bientot!

Rebel spy...

So traditions was good, got my new name badge all shiny and telling the world that I'm from Chester and not not my home town, oops, well it is kinda true I have lived there for 3 years now... anyways I got my new badge but because it was an afternoon class we finished so late, so we got changed and headed straight over to MK, got dinner first, because we were all so hungry at cosmic rays. Then we went for space mountain, buzz ride (I got my first 999999 score!!) then a spot of MK dance party, parade, fireworks, the magic, the memories and you and finishing up with pirates of the carribean and big thunder mountain! Such a good night even though we didn't make it to fantasyland. The next day I was off and headed to DHS with a group of people, was a fun day, we did tower of terror, rocknroller coaster, star tours (I was the rebel spy this day!! Of all the times I have ridden this attraction!) and indiana jones stunt show as well as the parade. This was followed by a lovely dinner and chatter with some friends I made last year complete with some new faces to get to know, resulting in a very deformed looking penguin...

Friday held my orientation at MK, lots of walking around, rode a few attractions and was basically told all about the whole park and random facts. Not a bad start to paid work at WDW. Second day involved a PAC costume, some computer work and a few more attractions, backstage in areas and a ride on the river boat in the captains deck! Feel so privileged to be an MK CM. Then the next day was my day 1 of training at ATT (Aladdin, Tiki, treehouse) in adventureland. This day was focused on how the magic carpets works and how to keep it safe, this was followed by tiki room training today. I didn't realise there was such a long spiel to learn for it, but I had guests telling me I did well so I was pleased and overall I had fun.

In the evenings of these long long days I also managed a reunion trip to DTD with Heather and her universal friends, a wander around the premium outlets and a trip to boardwalk last night complete with mint choc chip ice cream. So although I may feel really tired right now I can say that I have had a really good week and am looking forward to working my attractions once I have the hang of them :D

Tomorrow and the next day I'm off work so we shall see what they hold :) hopefully more magical moment (like being talked to by Flynn Ryder from a parade float whilst in full costume including nametag) magic really does exist in this place!

I'm home...

Well here I am, back in good old vista way, a different apartment and different room mates of course, but back where I was last year, so many memories flooding back reliving all that happened last time, trying so hard not to compare. So far however things have been more different than I remember, Disney shaking it up a bit :D

So the flight was good, despite a delayed take off, we made loads of time and arrived ahead of schedule, got through customs pretty quickly really, only 1 hour and no extra interview...always good. Then the shuttle over to vista was much better, no getting lost and no 2 hour journey! After this check in was completed, a short video and talk followed by an alumni pin and room allocation. Then quickly flinging all my clothes and things out of the case it was off to walmart to try to shop! Walmart was as always crazy butt ok. However to welcome us to sunny florida there was a massive thunder and lightening storm whilst we were there, with sounds that sounded like gun shots....either way it did not stop raining for a while...then to bed. I'd been up a long time, but not as long as last year, didn't make the 24 hour mark!

Yesterday was orientation day 1, which involved a bus ride and talk at the commons, housing check in and random pirate of the carribean rave so funny, but smily sarah was there once again to welcome us to disneyworld. Following this, it was back to vista before heading to downtown for some dinner. I can already check off one thing from my bucket list, we ate at paradiso 37, and it was really nice, sat outside with live music and fireworks in the background :) perfect way to end the evening and DTD, forgot how much I loved the live music there :D

Today so far has yielded an early start over at the commons for a lovely immigration talk and lots of paper work completions, however I got away with not filling out the social security form as I already have mine :D big big smiles here! After this back to vista for a spot of lunch and pool time, trying so hard not to burn, but thinking my prevention techniques are futile....then off to the 'round robin' as they called it on my schedule, where we got pay cards, and found out roughly where we will be working. I'm in MK on frontierland/liberty square attractions, which could be anything, but it could be my request....not holding out much hope really but it would be awesome! Anyways this evening holds pizza and fun times before my 2pm traditions class tomorrow. I so wanted the 8am, but at least this means I can skype home and have a lie in :D then after that it will be time to head to MK for the first time in about 9 months! Excited much! :D

Have a magical day everyone :D

Wastin' time

Bonjour, and welcome to a procrastination blog! I am sat here thinking about the past and the future ICP and wondering what lies ahead of me and how it will compare to my last program. Perhaps I shouldn't do this and experience everything through a new pair of eyes as it were. But as it is there appears to be no way around it.
I hate goodbyes, it matters not how long I have known you, but I hate saying goodbye and I can get pretty emotional. As you guessed I've known my family for a long time and hate to say goodbye to them even knowing how long the time of separation will be and I have a feeling that this year it's going to be even harder as my family aren't coming to visit part way through my program, although every time they left me whilst they were on vacation it broke my heart. Drama queen you say? I think not, I just love my family and my friends and probably some of you lot by the end of the program too :) be nice to me and I'll be your friend and this means I love you, in a lovely friend way of course :).

Anyways from the emotional descriptions I have possibly scared you all? Well don't worry I'll try my best to keep it together on Sunday, I'll try my best, but if everyone else cries I will join in... either way that doesn't mean I'm not excited, because I am, so excited! I cannot wait for Sunday now, the June 5thers heading over tomorrow I wish great luck and safe travels and hope to see them when we all get there on Sunday :D but there move tomorrow is making me want to go now! I suppose, good things come to those who wait, or so they say.

With all that said, I'll leave you with this musical master piece from Tyler Ward, a musician who I happen to like his music which kinda fits the bill for the time being :)

Have a magical day....

It's the month of the mouse - June time

Hey there, hi there, ho there, it's a disney kinda day and it is now just a few hours over a week until I get to start summer 2012 officially and I am so ready and so excited! However the plans I have for the coming week are a bit crazy, I have packed so much stuff into the next week I think I'll be sleeping on the plane (just kidding, who needs sleep right?). So we have a visit from one of my fab 5 from summer 2011 possibly meeting me on wednesday :) and also lots of other friends to see and say goodbye to :( this is so sad because some of them I may not see for a very long time as they are graduating and even though I'll remain in Chester (well kinda) they won't be there, uni will be so weird with half of my friends gone and being all grown up :/. Oh well I get to go and revel in my youth and work for the mouse in one weeks time! So now it's June. June has arrived, which is super exciting, but I cannot believe how fast this year has gone and how quickly the goodbyes come around once again. Today the real goodbyes started with my grandma, it always breaks my heart to say bye to her, but as she said, how fast time is going I'll see her in no time, and she's quite right, despite wanting the summer to never end (standard) it will fly by and we'll all be back to the mundane UK come September....but that's enough of the future talk for now. We have to live for the here and now right. You only live once!
In other news, the travel plans for post-ICP are taking shape. We have now decided mainly what we're going to do in each place and the main places we need to go, i.e. statue of liberty, central park, empire state, times square etc and hopefully all the booking will take place on tuesday or wednesday so that we're sure that it is really going to happen this time! I had a great mini stay-cation in disney last year, but this time I do feel like I should break out of the box and really explore some more of the real US! So perfect plan to hit 4 states (including Fl) in 9 days. Crazy you say, yes I think I am, as the Cheshire cat says ''we're all crazy around here''...
Right that's perhaps enough of my random weirdness for now, enjoy your long long weekend everyone and good luck to all you lucky June 5thers heading out on Tuesday! Have a blast and a safe flight :), see ya all real soon :D

10 days to go!!!!

Well hello there fellow ICPs :D this will no doubt be my last blog post of the marvellous month of May! It has been one crazy whirlwind of a year and I cannot believe how fast it has gone and how quickly I will be leaving the UK once again! Scarily I figured out last week that the last time I went to see a movie at the cinema was in Fl last summer! That is just how crazy busy this year has been! And now I'm bored. Well only for another 10 days and then I'll be crazy busy and crazy tired non-stop until September 10th! Eeek, it doesn't feel real again despite having done the program last year and knowing what to expect kinda and having the ability to imagine things in my mind, it doesn't mean that any of it seems more real or like it will actually become reality in just over a week! The scariest thing I think is still that I have stuff to sort out before I go now! I know it will all work out and plans for travel are going ok we just need to get our heads and cash together so that we can actually book the tickets etc and make the dreams become a reality! You only live once right! Tell that to my bank account :P

What’s the one Disney movie that you can quote from memory?
Anyways, other than starting to panic and get worried about random things, I have also been sorting out the last few things and getting a hair cut. My hair hasn't changed much, it's a bit shorter to ensure that I don't die from the heat and still fits the Disney look, well I think it does :D. I also finally got a new swimming costume today, simple black with a pretty spotty tie, I quite like it :D and also I could not resist another pair of flip flops! Possibly a bad idea, but I know I'll live in them, so I consider it an investment rather than a waste! Also this week, being at home, is all about seeing my family and relaxing before the craziness commences. However I find that now that I have finally stopped running around like a headless chicken, I'm tired all the time! Apparently non-stop is possible but a give your brain a few days and it just stops working! Makes me kinda worried I'll forget all the stuff I tried to cram into it over the last year and I won't remember anything for my placement in September...I hope this isn't the case.

Well either way, it's time to go and find something else Disney related to do/see/listen to :D au revoir!

I'm freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

So today I am one happy girl! I am all done with exams, hopefully until a year from now, but if not at least until retakes...and fingers crossed they all went ok-ish, not well but hopefully well enough for me to have passed. You know you've lost all of your competitiveness and drive when your sole aim for all exams is just a pass because you know aiming higher is pretty we're hoping for the best, yet expecting the worst. However now is so not the time to be worrying about them, results will not be out until July and I have lots of things to do before then! After we finished our exams yesterday my course mates and I went out for a spot of lunch at slug and lettuce and milled around in the beautiful sunshine in beautiful Chester! After this it was difficult to remember that I had actually finished my 3rd year of uni and for the first time since September I am free!
Another exciting part of having finished exams also means that today I got to head to Liverpool for another little Disney meet up. There were only about 8/9 of us all in all but it was a good day, sat out in the sunshine at Liverpool one :D It was great to see some familiar faces and have a chance to catch up and just discuss Disney non-stop all day! Which for me is great when a lot of people I know don't know too much about Disney or they just don't care in the same way I do! We spent all afternoon there just chilling and chatting and the time flew by! Then we had to make it back to Chester but the trains were cancelled to Chester, which was so irritating but we had our own heroine today in the form of Rachel who helped us get back to Chester before Friday was out :D and here I am just updating this blog now, so all in all a very lovely day for celebrating finishing exams and third year!

On another excitable note, it is now 16 days until the summer officially starts and once again I become a Disney cast member! I am so excited now and cannot wait, but just like last year, it still doesn't seem real or that it will really happen, although I know it will! Righto I'm off now, sleepy, well kinda :) have a magical day everyone!

Two exams down, one to go.

Good evening fabulous people, today marks the end of my second exam of third year and potentially that means only 2 more exams until they hand me a degree...the fools :P well the exams so far have neither been great nor awful, one was a bit of a joke but I hope that they went ok, they seemed to go ok, so I'm hoping my gut feeling is true and I haven't exactly fell flat on my face with my answers, but obviously with the whole ICP situation I must pass to ensure that retakes and flights back to the UK are not needed...

So onto revision for my final exam on Thursday now and that means another step closer to getting back to the happiest place on earth! The ICPs who are already there are posting some wonderful pictures and are giving me a good incentive to make sure that exams go as best as I can make them! Obviously having a magic wand would be wonderful, or even a fairy godmother, that too would be an awesome way to solve all of my academic and in fact, all other, problems!

In other news I still have a million and one things to do before the next 19 days are up! This includes getting more clothes, sun screen and finding my internet cable, which I appear to have misplaced, I hope it's not a complete loss, I need that thing! I hate to lose things! Oh well, maybe I'll find it chilling at home when I get there on Sunday. Also, I have been watching Disney movies whilst revising and this has picked my mood up no end, I've got through pretty much all of the ones I have copies of here at uni, and it includes such classics as Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Robin Hood, Tangled and The Princess and the Frog. A disney pick me up always lightens the days!

The last two days have also give us a little taste of the glorious sunshine, and what it actually is! I've had to get out the sun screen and sun glasses, but I'm not complaining, sure beats rain any day of the week! The sun also reminds me of Florida, just because every day is pretty much a sunny one, despite the down pours there is almost no day where the sun doesn't shine for at least a few hours! And we all know how much happier it makes you just to know and see that the sun exists!

Anyways, off to catch some z's soon, ta ra. Have a magical day!

So many groups, so little time...

Well hello there, it's Friday night and once again I have been living an exceptionally exciting life and spent the evening revising for my exams next week! I am getting pretty nervous about them now, they're so close, so real, and despite revision making me want to run away, and being so sick of seeing and re-reading the same thing over and over, I am not prepared for them! So we shall see, I do have the consolation that this time next week I will be free!!! And that means that I finally get to plan my travel plans for after the ICP, more about that next week, when plans take shape!

In relation to this posts title, there has been yet another college program group created on fb this week, I think I may be part of 4 or 5 now and it's a little crazy, new notifications all the time, I just don't have time to read all of the posts and really see what's going on. It's a good idea, great to meet and get to know new people :D but still wish I had more free time I think! :D Anyway, on with my blog....

I got to see this every single day of my program....:D

So, I promised to tell you all about the best bits from my programme right... so I'll pick one from work and one from social times and give them a bit of credit! The ICP is like no other experience you will ever have! So, let's start with my favourite moment at work, hmm, this has to be when I was actually outside the box, directing traffic and managing the people, my boss didn't think I would be able to do it, but I did! And it also meant that I could actually have conversations with guests about their days and what their plans were, unless they'd had a bad day, and then I got the front of it. But on the whole the times spent outside were by far the best, actually this also includes the time I spent on elevator line for the usher role, helping guests with disabilities get into the theatre via out elevator :D

For my favourite non-work moment, I've decided I have to pick two. Number one was dancing with Tigger and having the most amazing breakfast ever at 1900 Park Fair at the Grand Floridian with my friends Ashleigh and Heather. The other moment I choose, (these are not in order, in case you were wondering) was the whole entire graduation day! It was amazing! No words can fully describe that day. We started out early and attempted all 4 parks in one day (we failed due to graduation taking up like 3 hours) we managed 3 in the end, had lunch at epcot and then went back to Chatham to get ready for graduation. It was a big party, we got our grad mickey ears, certificates, freebies, food and dancing and so much fun. In true florida style we also got a major rain storm to top it off! We ended the night over at MK with fireworks and a MK bakery moment (one of our favourite haunts!). Thinking about it now just makes me smile :D

On that happy note, good night friends :D

May have had momentous burst of excitement....

So, after finishing up some revision, I came across this on a website called simplesdisney things. It is from one of my favourite Disney movies and it expresses how I feel about finishing exams and going back to Florida! A retraction upon this mornings complaints, but at least I can bring a little Disney magic back into the day :D

For my next blog I am going to tell you about the best day of my program in 2011, seeing as I told you the worst thing lol so you should get the best too :) until then, a bientot...

Have a magical dreaming night :D

Is it June 10th yet?

So with 25 days to go I'm going a little stir crazy. Spending all my time in my room revising, with breaks to go buy food and lectures up until yesterday. Uni really does ruin your life some times! I just can't wait for it to be over now and yet at the same time when I've done the exams I know there will be no more I can do to them and so if I've failed, that's it, my fate is sealed, an early plane home and resits in August... which I seriously hope I don't have to do, I will be devastated! Yet the closer the exams loom the more likely this reality is seeming and the less positive I am about the whole outcome of this. As much as I can't wait to get back to WDW and resume my ICP life, it some times makes me wonder if I should really be doing it because of the extra pressure to pass it puts on me, especially as I have to pass to continue into my placement year and if I hope to finish this degree at some point...

However in the midst of despair, myself and my house mate have begun our planning for post ICP travelling. That is providing we pass the exams and manage to stay in the US... so keep all of your fingers, toes, arms whatever else, for us please! In our plans at the moment include South Carolina, to see one of my friends doing a year abrorad there, then onto Washington DC and the NY, finishing off the trip back in Florida as that's where we will be flying from to get back to the UK. So those plans make me really excited and motivated to pass these exams, but I wish it was as simple as long as you have motivation you get to pass, because I'm just not sure why unis are so evil to third year students! I have also been listening to disney music, radio etc to keep me positive, we shall see the impact next thursday afternoon when it's all over!

Well that perhaps is enough complaining for one day, sorry I'm not very upbeat at the moment, but it's been a while since I blogged and felt a new blog needed to happen so even though this blog is quite boring and doesn't really tell you much, it exists, and will remain to do so. :)

Right, well I hope everyone else is super positive and looking forward to the remaining 25 days we have in the UK.

30 days....

So we're now at the 30 day count down stage, which in other words, means less than one month now! How fast time goes when you're trying tor revise for exams and finish up a year of uni. So this week has gone pretty fast, I can't believe it's been a week since I saw Ayla and her friend and sister in the Peak District! Time is just flying by and it's so sad how quickly you have to say good bye all over again. Well, on with the show, this week has been a week of people trying to find out where they will be working at Disney and quite a few people appear to be in Epcot, but there is now suspicion that this is all lies and we won't find out until arrival. Disney do like surprises!

In other news, I also found out that I get to keep my perner number :D yay no new numbers for me to learn this year! So in disney a perner number is your ID number, basically your number to clock in and out etc...all I know is I kept forgetting mine last year and had to check my ID card a lot, but this means that I will keep my number, which typically I can now remember and hopefully never forget how to get into work/hub :D

Also filtering through facebook of late has been the pictures and statuses of the lucky May 6th people, it seems like they are having a great time, and much better weather than in the UK I might add. So far I know that one friend I know is working at the Polynesian, near MK. The Polynesian is my favourite resort, it is a deluxe resort and it has great theming and you can also watch wishes from the man-made beach that they have there, we did that last year, in fact we watched the July 4th fireworks from that beach! I prefer that resort even to the Grand Floridian, boo hiss if you don't agree, but the Grand Floridian is beautiful and immaculate and wonderfully themed but the Polynesian just has the extra jazz for me :) it's true that you can see MK from both resorts and that the Grand Floridian has a wedding pavillion, so I'll leave you to make up your own minds about it... In the defence of the Floridian it has 1900 Park Fayre, a character dining restaurant where myself and 2 of my friends had a late breakfast last year! It was epic! It has the typical British characters (Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Mary Poppins, the Mad Hatter, Alice) and you get the most amazing breakfast, it was just amazing, plus it's nice and conveniently close to MK to hop into the park after a very satisfying breakfast. I preferred my character meal there moreso than in the Crystal Palace in MK. But on the list for this year is Cinderella's Royal table, more pricey, no question, but I've only heard good things :D

Right, on that note, I will leave you to your dreams..

''Giving up is for rookies''

And so the famous quote goes, but I sure do feel like giving up with this revision right now! There seems to be no end to it although there is a big mickey mouse shaped light at the end of this long long tunnel. It is now 33 days until I get to hop across the pond for fun in the sun, but until then I must stay in the UK and revise for 3 exams which are looming and seem to be very difficult from my point of view....

To add insult to injury the May 6th people are out there right now in the sunshine and last night enjoyed an I/CP exclusive party at Typhoon Lagoon, I'm sure it was an amazing night and hope they all had a great time, but it just means I want to be there and not here more than ever. I'm afraid this post has just turned into a big complain about life but I guess I'm still very lucky to be going to Disney World at all and I should make the most of being in a country where I don't melt when I step foot outside the door, even though it can be cold and rains all day in comparison to 10 minute down pours....

Righto, off I must go, back to the realities of the world, TTFN!

Wanna know the worst thing about the ICP?

Well I'm afraid I must start this post in a kinda melancholy way and for that I'm sorry, especially for the excited May 6th people onboard planes right about now... So I have had a wonderful few days catching up with one of my friends from ICP 2011 Ayla, who is currently backpacking across Europe and made a stop in the UK where I met her and her travel companions to take a light stroll (8 miles) down the Dovedale trail and through the countryside.

It was a wonderful time, despite the wonderful english weather showing us hail, rain and sunshine all in one day, it was so good to see her again and have a real catch up as she finished her program in August before I'd finished mine, as she is from Michigan and was on a 6 month CP program. So despite not having seen her since then it felt like we parted yesterday and it was all over too soon and I was once again saying Good Bye to a wonderful friend and two new friends, who knows when I will see them again, and at this point the question really is if I'll see them again. And that my friends is the worse thing about the summer program, the good byes, they really tear you up inside and although you know that planes and trains exist, you also know that your bank account has a limit and it may be a very long time until you can really catch up with your friends again...

Picture of Me, Paige, Ayla and Georg on Ayla's Birthday in Epcot

I think I have been very lucky to manage to see 5 of my friends from the UK who I met through the ICP and 1 american friend since returning in September whilst struggling through my third year at uni and working so many other things in it's crazy. I simply don't know how I've done it, but one thing I do know, is that I wished I could've seen my friends more and stayed in better contact with them, but maybe when the workload disappears from the horizon it will be easier for me to do this, although I will be adding other friends into the mix no doubt after ICP 2012!

So the best thing about ICP = making the most amazing friends; the worst thing = Leaving them....

On another note, I had a dream last night about my arrival to WDW this summer and my work placement. I dreamt that I was placed on Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin which is twinned with the Carousel of Progress in tomorrowland in MK. I'm not sure what made me dream of this, it's not specifically where I wanna be as I have requested the Haunted Mansion etc, but it would still be a pretty cool attraction to work on, and if I'm honest, my friend Heather worked on it last year and had a blast :) (bad pun I know).

So that's all for now, have a magical Sunday guys, and don't forget June 10th peoples, it's only 5 weeks!!!

''Not in Nottingham''

Good evening friends, a tad late to post I know, but it's the start of a lovely weekend ahead. Later today I am meeting my friend Ayla from the ICP 2012 who is here on vacation with her sister and friend from Michigan :D I will be meeting up with them tomorrow and spending the evening and saturday with them making the most of the best of the british countryside :) fingers crossed for no rain...almost guaranteed though isn't it, it is still only May.... So I am so excited to see her again after it being so long since she finished her program (in August) and it is that long since I saw her, my how the time has gone fast!

Also, it is now only 38 days until ICP 2012 and I can't wait, so excited! EEEKK! Plus yesterday managed to receive 3 emails about the program :D 2 from yummy jobs and one from Disney recruitment, not much else going on in the news, other than attempting to revise, and failing, miserably.

Plus to those who leave on Sunday for the magical world of Disney, safe trip :) see you on the other side of the pond :D

41 days to go...

So hey there lovely followers of my blog, this is going to be the last blog for April and my gosh how the time has flown by! It is now less than 6 weeks until I will be going to Florida and having lots of amazing times with new and old friends alike :D

So I am on the run down in my course now, 3 weeks today and I will have one exam over and two more to go before the epic hop across the pond for 3 whole months!!! YAY!!! I wish I could say that this means I am super focused and revising really hard because I don't want to fail, it's true, I do want to pass/need to pass, but I just can't get focused or interested on anything that isn't disney right now....I'm trying to focus and should be working right now as I type out these lovely words for my blog, hmm, if anyone finds my motivation please return to sender :P
Anyways the show must go on, let's talk about the social security appointment. I've had a few questions about how this process goes and if we need them etc. So basically a social security number is something you need to work in the US, a little like a national insurance card, but not the same, do not quote me on this lol. You don't need to worry about sorting anything out for it, just remember the documents that Disney tell you that you'll need, I think it was passport, visa info and a birth certificate if you have it, if you didn't bring it with you then I think plenty of people went without it. They just get you to fill out an application on one of the housing days and then they keep that safe until the morning when a large group of ICPs will be herded onto buses at about 7am to go over to the offices, I think they opened at 8am which was early so that we could get them done, took about 2 hours max for most people to get through, but good news is once you've got yours you will never need to get another! So then you get taken back to housing and you're free to go to work/parks, basically to get on with your day. The appointments are likely to be a few weeks in so they won't be in the first week, so don't worry about it :D

Right, that's enough procrastination for today, TTFN...Have a magical day :D

Magical Moments...

So today I had a bit of a review with my course leader at uni, and she said to me that on junior master chef they took the kids over to Disneyland in Anaheim. She said she couldn't help but think of me and asked if I would be wearing a costume. To be honest, as I don't know what I'm doing or wearing yet I can't really answer that question properly as Disney call a uniform a costume so in fact, yes I will be wearing a costume, but not in the same way that she meant. Oh well, it kinda made my day a little and made me super excited! I can't believe how soon it is and then I will be back in the happiest place on earth making the most of summer 2012!

In addition to wonderfully unexpected Disney magic occurring today, I listen to a disney radio station on the internet to get me into the Disney mood and make sure that I don't forget where I'll be this summer (like I could), and what comes on, nothing but one of the songs from Cirque, so weird, talk about flash backs! In addition to this, it is now currently playing a tiki room version of the macarena, it's safe to say I have never heard this song before. It is weird. There is no other explanation for it! :/ on the topic of songs that brings me around to the song of my ICP 2011, whether it is just a CP song or just one they chose to play a lot last summer (at dance parties in MK and DTD and also at our amazing graduation), it is the cupid shuffle.

It has a really cool dance lol, it's real simple to do, but so much fun! I can't describe how it feels to see goofy, pluto and others dancing along to this song, it is truly magical.

Righto, I'm signing off for tonight, have magical Disney dreams everyone :D

It's raining, it's pouring, and revision is boring....

Hey there, hi there, ho there, it's a Disney kinda day (or not). Well here I am once again, sat trying to revise for exams that I don't want to take, and have a sneaking suspicion will be really hard :( and it's raining. England is so great right?
Whilst on the other side of the pond the sun is shining and it is hot! So whilst thinking about the other side of the world let's consider the first few days in Florida. So I've been seeing a lot of questions and comments about Traditions on the fb group and I thought I would add my information to the mix, whether it is useful or not I'll let you decide. So for my traditions class I had an 8.30am class, this meant leaving vista pretty early to get over there on the buses, but lots of people had to do the same, plus it was our first official days work as cast members! So at traditions, you go into disney university and then will be ushered off to the correct room, mine was a plain room, but there is one with an amazing wall mural of Disney characters so watch out for that one. I won't tell you what things they said during traditions as it is something you should experience for yourselves, but as for clothing choices, I was surprised what people were able to wear really, I was aware that many of the UK ICPs were dressed very smartly, and for this I wore black smart trousers, and a white flowy kinda shirt/top, it wasn't too formal, but it was nice and a cardigan as the top only had capped sleeves. I would warn over wearing short dresses/skirts if you are wanting to wear a dress guys, because it is possible that they won't let you into class....which will delay your training and entry to the parks. During the class we did head into MK through the magical utilidors :) so wear comfy shoes, you will be walking around MK for about 30-40 mins and if your class is in the morning it will be about 10-11am and if your class is in the afternoon then it will be a mid afternoon stroll around the park. You have had fair warning :D

After you have successfully complete traditions you will receive your ID and name badge, which means that now you can get into the parks for as you can imagine we headed into MK after going back to vista to change. Some people did go straight back over to MK in their smart clothes because it saved a lot of time, the bus ride to vista is pretty long, but either way we all ended up in MK at the end of that day beginning memories to last a lifetime. I can remember that first day better than the rest I think, myself and my friend Collette were stood waiting for the electrical parade and we got talking to two american families about their vacations and about how we ended up being there and also about the royal wedding of last year, which I have to admit, seems like forever ago. Either way, it was an amazing way to start off life as a cast member and thinking about it has made me so excited, I cannot wait for traditions round two and meeting lots of great new CP friends, and visiting old ones :D

Have a magical (even if rainy) day :D

Blogger has gone weird...but only 7 weeks until Disney Dreams become reality :D

So hello again, and welcome to Sunday night, I'm sorry I haven't blogged yet this week, but I've been busy with my dissertation hand in and getting back into the swing of actually having lectures to go to and things to do. So here we are again and a week closer to Summer ICP 2012! It is so exciting that in 7 weeks we will be at vista with bleary eyes and excited grins :D

In other news I have been looking at the video of a song by one republic, I like the song and love the video, I hope you enjoy :D

In addition, I have been sent this link by my friend Ashleigh from ICP 2011 and it has a list of all the really awesome things to eat at Disney :) so check it out and you too can get really hungry really fast :) Me and my house mate have also begun a healthy exercise and diet regime this week for the summer to make sure that we are looking good so that we can tan (burn). It really helps that both of us are doing it together and hopefully we will see some positive results.

Many of you may have seen, or heard, that there was an accident near vista way this week, where an ICP was killed in a hit and run accident. It is awful and just makes me think of how terrible it must be for her family and friends so far away and even for her new CP friends as Disney World. My thoughts really go to her family and friends right now and a warning for the rest of you ICP/CPs reading this blog, take care when crossing the roads in the US, there are some crazy drivers....

So on that sombre note, I'm signing off for the night, hoping for a wonderful and magical week for all and especially for those people heading over to Disney World in about 2 weeks now. So TTFN, sleep well friends :D

8 weeks to go....

So in 8 weeks time I will be sat in Orlando, probably at the airport, waiting to get over to vista way with lots of excited ICPs ready for the summer of a life time! I am so excited it is a little bit crazy! To prove just how ready I am to go right now, I bought a mickey mouse ice cube tray today. I'm not gonna lie, I think I love it a little bit. I've already had some nice iced drinks with cute little mickey mouse shapes in them :D just what you want to be drinking when you are adding the final touches to a dissertation! But as I speak the project is printing, which means only one thing, it's finished! So officially just 3 exams stand between me and the Walt Disney World resort!

Thinking about what things will be like in 8 weeks time is so exciting! I will be arriving at vista way, finding out where and who I am going to live with and the plans for the following few days, not to mention a lovely, probably late night, trip to walmart :D I can't wait, not for walmart, but for the whole thing to be here and to be doing fun things and soaking up some lovely sunshine.....

Oh well, only a few weeks to go now, and those lucky people who will be heading over in the next few weeks, I am so excited for them, but also a little bit jealous that I still have to wait to get my turn. Well here's to waiting :D
